Mr Graham Creelman of Anglia Television officially opened the Hellesdon High School Library and Resources Centre on 18th September 2002.

The library is extensively used for research, but also serves as a quiet place to sit and read and complete homework and coursework projects. 18 Computers with internet access are also available. It is staffed by two school librarians Mrs Skeggs and Mrs Callingham so help is always on hand.

Facilities available are 13,000 Books available to loan, Newspapers and Magazines, Videocassettes and DVDs of modern and classic films, Audiocassettes, University information, Careers information contained in the Connexions Careers Resource Centre area, 18 Networked computers, all with internet access, image scanner and printing in black and white and colour.

Library induction lessons are provided for all Year 8 pupils at the beginning of the Autumn and Winter terms. We explain to pupils how the library works and also encourage them to read on a regular basis both fiction and non fiction books. This year many pupils have taken out books and continue to use the library on a regular basis. The DVDs have proved to be a great hit. One day per week will be dedicated to a Reading Club. Please speak to the librarians for more information.

Mrs Skeggs has been busy cataloging a variety of new books and DVDs to supplement the resources ready available. Please click on the link on the left hand side called 'New Books In' for a look at some of the new items available for loan.

Readathon During the last Summer Term Year 8 pupils participated in this fundraising event. Each pupil is asked to read a book and ask family and friends to sponsor them. The money raised is then shared between Sargent Cancer Care for Children and the Roald Dahl Foundation. These charities use the money to help very sick children and their families. This year we have raised £624.01! The highest fund raising reading group was 81C who won a prize. Courtney Moppett of 8BR won the prize for getting the most sponsorship. Well done and congratulations to all who participated.
